Fencing Tips When fencing choose the rapier for its quick attack. Wait a second at the start of a bout until fencers cross swords. If your opponent draws his sword back at waist height and blade is pointing towards you then they will thrust, so parry, and counter attack with your own thrust. If your opponents sword is held high on his right hand side it will be a chop, so duck, then counter attack. If your opponents sword is held high on his left hand side (arm across the body) will be a slash, so jump, then counter attack. Its easy to confuse the slash and chop.
